Neighboring people shelter in languages, while neighboring languages tie into the “rainforests”... And the Northeast of Anatolia transcends far beyond words.
“Beyond Words” presents the Black Sea nature, people and their culture with its simplest expression, using no text. A colorful world flourishes through various languages from Laz to Homshetsma and Romeika to whistle language where local people's unique representations and ways of living merge within. The sound of the rain accompanies either to a kemençe/fiddle or to an old, unfamiliar epic sung in a familiar but quite unknown language. Yet the threat of hundreds of hydroelectric plants to the environment and the local people is protested in a single language throughout the Black Sea region. “Beyond Words”, seeks the path to the “rainforests” and its fading languages in Turkey.
