This year’s program continues the tradition of highlighting emerging and established Turkish filmmakers with several appearances by guest directors. The festival opens on March 22nd with Sideway (Yol Kenarı) followed by a discussion with director Tayfun Pirselimoğlu and a ceremony honoring actor, author, screenplay writer and director Ercan Kesal with this year's Excellence in Turkish Cinema Award. A reception and a musical performance by world fusion ensemble Esthema concludes the opening night.

Many films in the program will make their U.S. premiers including the latest works by acclaimed directors Reha Erdem and Derviş Zaim, Big Big World (Koca Dünya) and Dream (Rüya). Fatih Akin's In the Fade (Aus dem Nichts) is the winner of the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film and the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. The festival will conclude with Ayla, a heartwarming film that is Turkey's official entry for the 90th Academy

The award-winning films of the Boston Turkish Festival Documentary and Short Film Competition, which celebrated its 12th year in 2017 will be screened on April 1st followed by a panel discussion.
