Dear guests and participants,
I sincerely welcome you to our 8th Contact International Student Film Festival.
Yaşar University is once again proudly hosting you in Izmir for this wonderful
student film festival. Under the leadership of the Radio, Cinema, and
Television Department, the entire Faculty of Communication worked hard to
ensure that we could come together again. The main objective of the festival
is to create a challenging and nurturing international art atmosphere for all
the
participants, as internationalization is one of the main strategic pillars of
our
university’s philosophy.
This year, 13 films were selected for the final competition with directors
from Poland, China, Japan, Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, France, Ukraine,
Belgium, the Russian Federation, and Turkey. Festivals are very important
artistic events in the career of film and television students. I am sure our
Contact International Student Film Festival will provide a creative and
artistic opportunity for all of you, the prominent directors and filmmakers
of the future. I congratulate the finalists for their successful participation
in
the Festival. I hope that international participants will enjoy the wonderful
company of our students and that this will motivate the participants for being
in touch and working together.
This year, The Institute of Theater, Audiovisual and Cinematic Studies (IESAV)
of the Saint-Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) from Lebanon is our Festival’s
guest. The Institute which was founded in 1988 has been a pioneer in the Near
East in the field of audio-visual and cinematic studies. We believe IESAV will
significantly contribute to our Festival. On behalf of Yaşar University, I thank
them very much and wish to advance our academic relations to a higher level.
Festival’s Jury Members are also another source of pride for us; all being
highly acclaimed in international cinema circles. I am pleased to express my
thanks to them. This year’s Festival was possible with the support of the
Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and many other generous
contributors. Lastly, the devoted and hardworking organizers of the festival
merit special credits, especially the Festival Directors. I thank and
congratulate
all members of the organizing committee.
I wish you a very joyful festival.

Here we are again for the eighth time! So far in this festival, we
have screened 237 films. We have welcomed to our festival
60 guests from other countries, and 40 from Turkey. There
have been film selections from twenty seven different film
schools. We have brought together students, young directors,
educators, and industry experts from seventeen different
countries with our own viewers and students. Films from five
continents have competed in our festival.
Every year, with the same enthusiasm, we organize Contact
alongside our students. And each year, we feel the same sense
of wonder as we wait for our guests and audience to watch
cinema’s magic unfold on the screen.
Welcome back to the festival week!

I sink into myself and pick up a stone
with suffering. At a certain moment,
that stone starts developing its ego and
becomes something different from myself.
Then he picks me up and takes me to a
place I never imagined. I have spent a
dizzying two years living alone, studying
at University during the Corona Disaster,
and suffering from a relapse of depression.
This is a work about a scene I saw while
continuing to create in the midst of it all.
Born in Miyazaki, Japan in 2001. I have
loved creating since childhood. In 2019,
during my second year of high school,
I created a short animation work, ‘The
Sound of Cicadas, Touch the Wind’. This
work, which depicted my own life sized conflicts and impulses through a
combination of hand-drawn drawings,
3DCG, and live action, won the Grand Prix
at the Wired Creative Hack Award 2020,
Youth Gold at the 22nd DigiCon6 Japan,
and was nominated for the Short Shorts
Film Festival & Asia 2020 U-25 Project.
Since then, I have accelerated my activities
as a filmmaker and an animation artist,
participating as an animator. Currently, I
am enrolled in the Media Design Course,
Faculty of Design, Kyushu University,
where I am studying various forms of
expression, not limited to animation.
Will You Remember My name is an
experimental short animation showing
women fighting for their rights in the
Middle East. Women, who have suffered
throughout their live,s and have often
been forgotten in history. This 2D
animation has been projected on the
women’s body as it is the first and the
most common tool for the patriarchal
societies to oppress them with.

tell their stories using various mediums.
She co-directed a My Beautiful Train

was selected for the 33rd Isfahan

Department
The cinema and television industries entered a rapid
transformation while entering the 21st century.
The development of digital technologies and their
repercussions in the media, telecommunication and
information sectors have allowed all mass communication
tools from television to new media to step towards the
future. From its inception, the Department of Cinema and
Television has followed and implemented all manner of
developments in technology and communication in the
educational program, thereby aiming to prepare students
for this new future. Not only does the department provide
access to all the innovations in the field, it also aims to
ensure that graduates become great thinkers and creators
in the media and cinema sectors through a comprehensive
theoretical education. Established in 1977, the Department
of Cinema and Television is the oldest department in
the Faculty of Communication Sciences. Graduates
of the department have become directors, producers,
cinematographers, screenwriters, editors, photographers,
administrators and academics in the cinema, television
and advertising fields. Students are encouraged to
participate in active social environments that provide great
opportunities for self-expression, through either the two
most active student bodies within Anadolu University - the
Cinema Club and the Communications Club, or through
the Eskisehir International Film Festival organized by the
department and supported by the university since 1998.

Television And Cinema
The aim of the department is to educate individuals who
will become a part of the global communication industry.
Apart from the academic projects it leads, the department
also adopts the principle of continuous production.
Students learn by practice; their education takes place in
an environment shaped around exercising their skills. They
take part in their instructors’ film projects. Photography,
television, and radio studios as well as camera equipment
and editing units are available for them to hone their
abilities.
The department offers various options for students to take
part in the Erasmus exchange program. This way they can
obtain a global perspective, get acquainted with different
cultures and learn from internationally acknowledged field
experts through workshops and seminars.
