Banu Avar




18 July 1955, Eskiþehir, Turkey, After graduating from London City University Department of Television, Banu Avar attended courses on documentaries at the BBC Elstree Studios. She also received a one year education on TV documentaries at South Thames College of London.

She worked as a reporter for the Turkish daily newspapers Günaydýn, Dünya, Vatan, Politika and wrote several serials.

She made programs for Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) Istanbul Radio and TRT TV Channels 1 and 2. She worked as producer and speaker at the Turkish Section of the BBC.

She worked as a reporter for the London office of TRT; carried out the production and direction of a program on arts titled “Mozaik.”

Avar worked as producer in Turkey of foreign documentaries. “I Ceasar”, “Crimean War,” “The Great Game” are some of these.

In 1999 she set up the documentaries section for TV8. Among her works are the documentaries such as THE FORGOTTEN YEARS (2 sections), WAR FIELD OF GIANTS: AFGHANISTAN,” “OHRID,OHRID, BEAUTIFUL OHRID” (History of Macedonia), “WE ARE HERE, TOO” (the inevitable rise of the Turkish national team) (3 sections), “A DOCUMENTARY ON SAILORS” (9 sections), “LOVERS OF TURKEY” (9 sections) and “ONCE UPON A TIME IN CYPRUS”. ‘Son of RIZA : Haydar ALIEV’
