Tracing the Anatolian Leopard and the Caspian Tiger, the ancient and mysterious
rulers of these lands, "The Lost Claws of Anatolia", while centering on the
flawless biology and millennia-old life story of these magnificent creatures, a
story that spans from the mudbrick walls of Çatalhöyük to the bloody arenas of
Rome, and from the sacred "Bars" figure in the Twelve-Animal Turkic Calendar to
the Ottoman palaces, lays bare in all its starkness the existential struggle
waged by these ancient species against the relentless advance of the modern age
and humanity's insatiable greed for land, as well as the tragic extinction
processes brought about by their shrinking habitats; and while documenting the
sorrowful true story of the Caspian Tiger’s silent vanishing from the depths of
the steppe and the fall of a kingdom, it focuses, on the other hand, on the
striking and hopeful resurrection of the Anatolian Leopard, long presumed
extinct, flourishing anew in desolate valleys, and through this contrast, by
forging a powerful bond between the traces left by the past and the fragile
reality of the present, it confronts the truth lying behind erased tracks,
ultimately revealing that nature can only regenerate itself as long as it is
safeguarded.
