Throughout existence, humans have been in a constant search for meaning in life.
The meaning of life, feelings such as having a purpose to live or a reason for a
meaningful existence, has led individuals to continually question these matters.
Particularly, situations like the monotony of life and the sharper definition of
the concept of working hours after the Industrial Revolution have prompted
society to question and contemplate these aspects.
Absurdism argues that the centuries-long effort of humanity to search for
meaning is in vain. According to Albert Camus, the fate of humanity bears a
significant resemblance to that of Sisyphus. To make life more meaningful,
humans constantly set goals and strive to achieve them. However, even if these
goals are reached and desires fulfilled, there is never an end to all of these
efforts. It is a continuous cycle, much like Sisyphus constantly starting anew.
When one realizes this cycle and the absurdity within it, they may become
estranged from themselves and their life. This estrangement can occur
unexpectedly, and once recognized, it may be impossible to escape from this
state of mind.
In the animation project "Inevitable," the narrative revolves around the
lighthouse keeper, illustrating situations where humans become completely
alienated from the purpose of their existence, the absurd feelings towards the
environment and time. The film addresses fundamental human issues, such as
accepting the meaninglessness of life with a questioning spirit. The project
highlights free will against the pursuit of immortality and the acceptance of
absurdity, thus presenting the fundamental ideas of Albert Camus's Absurdism
doctrine.
